What is abbas abdi?

Abbas Abdi is an Iranian journalist, political analyst, and former student activist. He was born on February 1, 1957, in Tehran, Iran. Abdi is known for his involvement in the Iranian Student Movement and his role in the Iranian hostage crisis at the United States embassy in Tehran in 1979.

He was one of the students who took over the embassy and held 52 American hostages for 444 days. After the hostage crisis was resolved, Abdi became a leading figure in the reformist movement in Iran. He founded the Association of Combatant Clerics, a reformist political party in Iran, and served as its secretary-general.

Abdi has been arrested and imprisoned several times for his activism and political views. In 1999, he was arrested and sentenced to death for his role in the "serial murders" case, but his sentence was later commuted to a prison term.

Since his release in 2003, Abdi has continued his activism for human rights, democracy, and political reform in Iran. He has written several books and articles on these topics and has been a commentator for Iranian and international media outlets.
